INFORMATION

South
Yorkshire Sailing Club welcomes
anyone interested
in sailing, whether they have enjoyed sailing before or are new to the
sport. The age of our current members ranges from
youngster to those at the end of their sailing career. We give a
friendly welcome to everyone and will offer help if and
when it is needed.
There is a gratifying rise in club membership since we have moved
to our new, improved premises. The median age of members and boats is
dropping fast, which will ensure more competition on the water. In
addition, we have had numerous enquiries, probably because we are so
much more visible than we used to be. Many people use the Underbank
reservoir area for recreation and are showing an interest in the
sailing club.
We also have a fine new sign on the Stocksbridge
bypass, which has attracted attention, and our Home of South Yorkshire
Sailing Club sign on the Yorkshire Water board at the top of the car
park has finally arrived. We hope this will make it still easier to
find us. Sheffield City Council were asked to move the Sailing Club
sign from More Hall to Midhopestones several months ago, but it seems
some things take a very long time. If you are struggling to locate the
Club, follow signs for the Mustard Potfrom the Stocksbridge
bypass. Continue past it and turn first left. This is Oaks Lane, a
narrow, winding lane, which brings you to Underbank. For more
information, see the 'Find
Us' page.
Some
members of Ulley Sailing Club are also joining us while repairs are
carried out to the damage done in the big floods of two years ago. They
are very welcome, bringing as they do, a wealth of experience and good
humour.
The Mustard Pot is beginning to feature in our social
life, with some sailors stopping for a drink and discussion after
sailing on Sunday evenings. We had a Club meal there recently which was
a pronounced success, both in terms of numbers able to attend and the
tasty meal we enjoyed.
There is a BBQ after sailing on Bank Holiday Sunday. Bring your own
food, drink and BBQ, with a salad or pudding to share.
Wednesday evening suppers have restarted also and are as good as ever,
especially for hungry sailors.
Membership
charges, which are outlined below, are in line with other clubs in the
area. They are reviewed annually. As you will see, there are various
categories of membership. These are fully explained on pages 1
& 2 of the SYSC Rules (see panel to right):
