Welcome to 'South Yorkshire Sailing Club'
|
|
ABOUT THE CLUB SYSC was founded just over 50 years ago on Morehall Reservoir, which is situated in the beautiful Ewden
Valley, about 7 miles to the north of Sheffield and convenient for access to the M1, Barnsley, Rotherham and the Peak District. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, family sailing club with a great social life.
NEWS
At long last, we once again have control of our
website! Big thanks to Ian Dale at Grimethorpe Electronic Village Hall Ltd
for a great deal of positive advice and friendly help.

Coming Soon - Look out for news about a major
change for SYSC - a new venue with modern facilities and a much larger
sailing area.
SAILING
We have organised racing on Sundays and Wednesday evenings (during the lighter nights) and members can sail at any other time as long as safety rules are met. Racing starts on Sundays at 12.30 pm (time for a lie in or grass cutting duties beforehand) and Wednesdays at 6.30 pm (straight from work?) and followed by a supper. We sail a variety of dinghies, mainly
Streakers, Mirrors, GP'14s, and Toppers, although there are a few
'others'.

THE CLUBHOUSE
Built over 50 years ago the clubhouse has aged gracefully and is a comfortable (if at times inconvenient) haven from the outside world. We do now have electricity, a telephone, flush toilets and a shower. There is also a wonderfully friendly atmosphere, where people are willing to set to and help maintain the building, help others, join in and have a good time.
TRAINING
Training can be arranged.
SOCIAL
Laughter is the main ingredient, followed closely by food. There are regular Wednesday evening suppers, which members take it in turns to provide - ranging from jacket potatoes to gastronomic feasts. During the year there are numerous events (usually including food) such as the Regatta, BBQs, summer camps, Christmas Dinner and the extremely popular theatre-going group. During the winter months we meet up in a Sheffield pub two or three evenings each month to keep in touch.
